We’d like to share the following note from Richard’s widow, Kelly Durrett, whose words capture the heart of why this mission matters so deeply:

“When we lost Richard suddenly in June 2014, the kids and I were immediately embraced by an outpouring of support and love from every community Richard had been a part of. We talked about how he had spent his life spreading light in the lives of people, and that light was coming back to shine on and support us.

Because of your support, that light is still shining. You have helped us create and sustain a foundation that has raised more than $3 million and helped more than 300 families in their darkest days. Friday night at our 11th event, we raised over $305,000. This would not have been possible without your generosity and continued belief in our mission.

What we do will never be enough. We cannot replace what other families have lost. Richard will not be here this year to watch Owen perform in his school concerts and plays. He will not take Alice for her first driving lesson. He cannot sing along to KPop Demon Hunters while Margot choreographs moves that he would never have been able to perform. I have to parent on my own. But the work Do It For Durrett does every day shows families like ours that they are not alone and that light still shines. The support we provide helps free them from immediate financial stress and allows them to focus on finding their way forward into a life they would never have chosen.
